It is generally agreed by most everyone I know that choosing journalism as a career goal right now is generally a really, really bad idea. College grads should aim for something that's realistically attainable: like Broadway star or president of the United States. But if you insist of being a writer, know that there's at least one perk to being unemployed.
Typepad -- the canvas on which all my brilliant and witty insights are recorded -- is offering free blogging services to recently unemployed writers. This amounts to a $150 annual savings. While this is certainly excellent news, the site's CEO, Neil Dash, warns that the program is "not going to singlehandedly preserve the career and income of every working journalist who has a job today."
Drat. Well, there goes all my plans for world domination.
that's awesome! a bailout for journalists...just what we always needed. where was this bailout when we were working 12 hour days for $20,000 a year?

One of my favorite hobbies is writing poems, short stories and I have almost completed two stories that would perfectly fit for 7 to 11 year olds readers. If only I could decide on an ending of a happy ever after. Its currently not a place I'm in. But my daily check into the crystal ball says its going to get better.
So here is the 411, I'm 40 and I attend a local technical college. If everything goes as planned I will graduate this time next year. I have a variety of interest, such as writing, photography, graphic design, web design. I am even teaching myself Spanish. My crystal ball says that will be a very marketable asset. So who knows what I will be when I grow up. I love to blog. I love to read blogs. Money is that important as waking up and doing the things that make getting up worth it.
